I am deeply honored to have been invited to create this graphite pencil drawing of the United States Military Academy. While I have produced drawings of over thirty of the nation’s top institutions of higher learning, I consider West Point the pinnacle of this series. As an artist, the campus’ beautiful landmarks and impressive architecture were inspiring. I hope that I have been able to capture you’re memories of the campus – as well as the spirit and pride of being a West Point graduate.
To design this piece, I spent time on campus, where I studied buildings and grounds. Close observation has allowed me to render my drawing as detailed and realistic as possible. During my visit, I also spoke with students, staff, and alumni about the places and experiences that meant the most to them. Their stories informed my design, and I hope my drawing evokes the unique culture and traditions of West Point.
