This drawing was inspired by both Escher’s “Reptiles” lithograph and my son, who loves animals. Like the lizards in “Reptiles,” the elephants in “Escape” are marching off the page. In my interpretation, the elephants transform from two-dimensional to three-dimensional images. Drawing the elephant that is half two-dimensional and half three-dimensional was the most difficult part of this drawing. You can see that I used pencils to help further the illusion that this elephant is coming out of the drawing.
